To avoid all the machinations of Hotmail I'd suggest using an ISP that offers its subscribers both Web-based and POP3 mail. You'd still have the option of using Hotmail in Outlook Express or Outlook 2002, if you so chose. Checking POP3 mail at the Hotmail site will soon require an added fee.
